On 18-20 January 2022, the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), together with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Safe Migration in Central Asia activity implemented by the Winrock International co-organized a pilot training course on the use of Education for Justice (E4J) materials for academia of the three national Turkmen universities, namely the Turkmen Institute of International Relations, the International University for Humanities and Development and the Makhtumkuli Turkmen State University, as well as teachers of the school No 21 in Ashgabat.
The E4J initiative, developed by UNODC in partnership with UNESCO, seeks to prevent crime and build a culture of lawfulness through education activities designed for primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
During the training course, faculty members of the three Turkmen universities were introduced to specifically designed educational materials related to the criminal justice system, human trafficking, cybercrime and other areas relevant to prevention of violent extremism and countering terrorism.
In a separate session, the teachers of the specialized training and educational school in Ashgabat had an opportunity to learn more about the rule of law, crime prevention, justice and gender. They were also trained to use interactive games to address these issues among pupils.
