DUSHANBE, Tajikistan
On 18–22 May, SRSG for Central Asia and Head of UNRCCA Kaha Imnadze during his working visit to Dushanbe held a series of meetings with senior government officials of the Republic of Tajikistan, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Prosecutor General Habibullo Vohidzoda, Chair of the Committee for Women and Family Affairs Bunafsha Faiziddinzoda, Commander of the Border Troops of the State Committee for National Security Murodali Rajabzoda, Director of the Centre for Strategic Research Khayriddin Usmonzoda, Ambassador-at-Large and Special Representative for Afghanistan Khisrav Sohibzoda, and the First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Youth and Sports Shabnam Rahimzoda, as well as the representatives of the diplomatic community in Dushanbe, and the UNRC.
During the meetings, the parties discussed strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation in Central Asia, ensuring security and stability, preventing extremism and countering terrorism, as well as developments in Afghanistan and their implications for the region. The discussions also covered advancing transboundary water management, enhancing border cooperation, and promoting the “Youth, Peace and Security” and “Women, Peace and Security” agendas.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening platforms and organizing joint initiatives, including the Dushanbe Water and Counterterrorism Processes, as well as preparations for events such as the Annual Meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asian states, the Fergana Peace Forum in Khujand, and Young Peacebuilders Cross-border Initiative within the framework of the Fergana Process. The importance of the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference, scheduled to take place on 25–28 May, was also highlighted in the context of advancing regional and international cooperation on water resources management.
The interlocutors underscored the importance of further strengthening the partnership between Tajikistan and UNRCCA aimed at advancing preventive diplomacy, building trust, and effectively responding challenges in the region".
