UNRCCA participates in regional conference on countering terrorism and extremism

On 6-8 October 2026, UNRCCA participated in the 12th International Scientific and Practical Conference of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO RATS) and the 4th Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Conference on Countering Terrorism and Extremism. The joint conference was hosted by the Government of Belarus in Minsk.

More than 100 representatives from SCO and CIS Member States, Observer and Partner States, relevant UN entities and other international and regional organizations, including INTERPOL, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG), took part in discussions on counter-terrorism cooperation through regional and international platforms, countering the financing of terrorism, the role of information technologies and artificial intelligence and other relevant themes.

UNRCCA briefed participants on its ongoing efforts to advance implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia through the Joint Plan of Action, with particular focus on the multi-year project implemented with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in active partnership with SCO RATS and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre (CIS ATC).

Also, the competent bodies of the CIS and SCO conducted the joint exercise "Eurasia Antiterror 2026," which conference participants were invited to attend.
