Astana, KAZAKHSTAN

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of UNRCCA, Kaha Imnadze, visited Astana from 7 to 10 April 2026.
During the visit, the Special Representative met with senior officials of the Republic of Kazakhstan, including H.E. Daniya Yespaeva, Deputy Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Yerzhan Ashikbayev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, H.E. Yerkin Tukumov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Afghanistan and Mr. Zhandos Shaimardanov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on current international and regional developments, as well as to discuss plans for cooperation and interaction in the year ahead.
The Special Representative and his interlocutors reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of preventive diplomacy, regional stability and sustainable development in Central Asia. They also underscored the importance of continued dialogue and coordination among national authorities and international partners in addressing common regional challenges, including those related to Afghanistan.
While in Astana, the Special Representative also met with the international partners and the representatives of diplomatic community, including Ms. Sarangoo Radnaaragchaa, the UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, as well as representatives from the OSCE Programme Office.
