On 25 May in Dushanbe, SRSG Kaha Imnadze took part in the Pre-conference Forum “Frontiers of Transboundary Cooperation. Innovations and Actions for Water for Sustainable Development, held within the 4th International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" 2018-2028”.

UNRCCA in cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and UNAMA co-organized a separate thematic panel titled “New approaches for basin-wide cooperation with the integration of Afghanistan”.

In his introductory remarks, SRSG Kaha Imnadze noted the importance of creating of the enabling environment for mutually beneficial arrangements in the region to successfully address climate risks and equitable and rational use of water regionally. Among other things, he proposed to consider supporting a high-level dialogue platform for states of the region which could include Afghanistan. In supplementing efforts of other stakeholders and respective UN entities, such an initiative could further spur collective efforts to deepen interaction in this important field.
