UNRCCA convened an online session of the Preventive Diplomacy Academy (PDA) Cohort 2026 on youth inclusion in peace processes on 16 September, featuring Ms. Irena Grizelj, Mediation Support Officer at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD).
The session aimed to strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of PDA participants from Central Asia and Afghanistan in dialogue, mediation and conflict prevention, with a particular focus on meaningful youth participation in peacemaking.
Ms. Grizelj introduced participants to the work of HD and presented an integrated approach to youth-inclusive peace processes. Drawing on her experience in mediation support and youth political participation, she explored approaches to involving young people in peace efforts and supporting their contribution to inclusive dialogue.
The presentation was followed by a small-group exercise, providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on the approaches introduced and consider their practical application. Interactive discussions and question-and-answer exchanges further explored youth engagement in peace processes and its relevance to preventive diplomacy.
Through the PDA, UNRCCA continues to equip successive cohorts of young people from Central Asia and Afghanistan with knowledge, practical skills and regional connections to support their engagement in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
