THE UNRCCA ACADEMY OF PREVENTIVE DIPLOMACY HELD AN ONLINE SESSION ON THE ROLE THE DPPA PLAYS IN THE UN SYSTEM

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 3 April, during the online session of the Preventive Diplomacy Academy, Mr. Akylbai Eleusizov, the Team Leader for Central Asia and South Caucasus in the Europe and Latin America Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Department of Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO), joined the participants to give a presentation on "Architecture, Goals, and Objectives of DPPA  - ECAD in Central Asia: Political and Peacebuilding Issues". The goal of the session was to raise awareness of young people on the role the DPPA plays in the UN system and its activities in the Central Asian region.

The 48 participants had the opportunity to learn about the structure of the UN Secretariat and its role in creating sustainable peace around the world. The session also highlighted the importance of the changing environment of world peace and security, including new threats such as new types of conflicts, decolonization, and climate change efforts. The participants engaged in a fruitful conversation, showing their understanding of the topic and their readiness to critically assess the ongoing changes.

DPPA plays an important role in conflict prevention and resolution as it monitors and assesses global political developments to detect potential crises and devise effective responses. The Department also supports the Secretary-General and his envoys in their peace initiatives, as well as UN political missions around the world, including the UNRCCA.
