YOUTH FORUM FOR PEACE AND TRUST

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 29 March 2021, the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia took part in the International Youth Forum for Peace and Trust, organized by the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN in Turkmenistan.  

To implement the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 73/338 as of 12 September 2019 proclaiming the year 2021 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, the Forum was aimed at encouraging the UN member states, UN entities, regional and sub-regional organizations to consider instituting mechanisms to involve youth to promote a culture of peace, tolerance, and intercultural and interreligious dialogue and develop an understanding of respect for human dignity, pluralism, and diversity.

During the thematic session of the Forum dedicated to youth networks and movements, participants of the Forum voiced their statements on the role that young people play in building peace and trust. This event provided an opportunity for young activists to share ideas on how to strengthen peace as a young person. Addressing the session, UNRCCA Academy of Preventive Diplomacy graduate shared his experience and knowledge and addressed the Forum with his proposals on how to build lasting peace in the region.

At the plenary session, representatives of international organizations and the national participants presented plans to involve young people in the development and strengthening of a culture of peace at the national, regional, and global levels.

UNRCCA shared information on the establishment of the Academy of Preventive Diplomacy, its goals, and objectives, as well as the successful dialogue held between the graduates of the Academy and the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Delivering their speeches, the participants of the Forum shared their information on activities to implement the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace, adopted by the General Assembly on 13 September 1999.

The Consolidated Appeal was adopted by the participants as an outcome document of the International Youth Forum for Peace and Trust.
