THE EU DELEGATION IN TURKMENISTAN GIVES LECTURE TO THE PREVENTIVE DIPLOMACY ACADEMY PARTICIPANTS

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 1 May, UNRCCA Preventive Diplomacy Academy invited Ms. Beata Pęksa, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Turkmenistan, to deliver a lecture for the 2024 cohort about the EU policies and priorities in Central Asia.

Ms. Pęksa explained the institutional structure of the EU, its founding agreements, the architecture of the Schengen and the Euro areas. She also stressed the significance of the European Union for the peace and stability in the region.

During the session, Ms. Pęksa talked specifically about the EU Strategy on Central Asia and its implementation in practice. She focused on the EU as an actor of peace, promoting the humanitarian-development-peace building nexus. Speaking to the participants, she also mentioned several concrete examples of the EU projects and activities in Central Asia.

Cooperation between the EU and the United Nations system, its Secretariat, Agencies, Funds and Programmes, spans across all policy areas, including peacebuilding and preventive diplomacy. Together, the EU and the UN work to uphold the multilateral system based on universal rules and values. Effective EU-UN cooperation is fundamental to tackling today’s interconnected global challenges in their common pursuit of a peaceful, just, and sustainable world.
