SRSG participates at the International Forum for a Nuclear Free-World

ASTANA, Kazakhstan –

On October 11-13, SRSG Jenča traveled to Astana, Kazakhstan to participate at the International Forum for a Nuclear Free-World on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the closing of Semipalatinsk shooting-ground and International Day against Nuclear Tests.

The topics related to the peacemaking free of nuclear weapons, universal treaty banning nuclear tests and the role of the governments and the public in the process of early entry into force, as well as creation of the nuclear-free zones and their problems and perspectives were discussed during the Forum.

In his speech to the Forum participants SRSG Jenča emphasized the importance of the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone Treaty that entered into force in 2009. He further underlined the future support and cooperation to be rendered by UNRCCA together with the governments of Central Asia in addressing threats to security, encouragement of the dialogue and joint solutions that will promote and strengthen peace and stability in Central Asia.
