WORKSHOP "EFFECTIVELY COUNTERING THE FINANCING OF TERRORISM"

ASHGABAT, 16 December 2016: Representatives of financial intelligence units, law enforcement bodies, prosecutors and other Governmental agencies of all Central Asian countries and Afghanistan met in Ashgabat on 14-16 December to discuss joint effective response to terrorism financing. The three-day training workshop on "Effectively countering the financing of terrorism" was organized by the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force/UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) Office, in collaboration with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

ASHGABAT, 14 December 2016: The regional seminar titled “Role of Parliaments in Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia” took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 12- 14 December 2016. The event was organized by the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) as part of strategic dialogues on security related topics, organized in Central Asia regular since 2009.

SEMINAR “THE IMPACT OF GLACIERS MELTING ON WATER RESOURCES IN CENTRAL ASIA IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE

BISHKEK, 9 November 2016 – An international seminar “The Impact of Glaciers Melting on Water Resources in Central Asia in the Context of Climate Change” was organized by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office for Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, with the support of the Government of the United States of America, on 8-9 November 2016 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic.

UNRCCA-UNODC HIGH-LEVEL CONFERENCE IN DUSHANBE

DUSHANBE, 23 September 2016 -- On 21-22 September 2016, UNRCCA, together with UNODC, and in consultations with UNAMA, organized a high-level conference titled “Identifying and Tackling Geo-Strategic Challenges to Promoting Development of the Licit Economy in Afghanistan in the Transformation Decade”. This event was partly a follow up to the UNRCCA/UNODC seminar on addressing the illicit drugs problem in the region that took place in Dushanbe in April 2013.

ASHGABAT, 31 March 2016 – On 29-31 March, the regional event “Recognizing and Responding to Radicalization that Can Lead to Violent Extremism and Terrorism in Central Asia” was organized in Almaty, Kazakhstan, by the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the UN Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) in an effort to support the implementation of the Joint Plan of Action for Central Asia under the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, funded by the European Union.

ASHGABAT, 28 March 2016 – Representatives from Central Asian countries, observer states, regional and international organizations, as well as relevant experts, counter-terrorism practitioners, and civil society from across the region   will gather in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 29-31 March to discuss the worldwide growing trend of radicalization and its realities in the region.
