Visit of the Head of UNRCCA to Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan –

On 9-10 August, Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited Uzbekistan for meetings with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Shavkat Khamraev and representatives of diplomatic corps and international financial institutions.

During the meetings, an exchange of views took place on current political developments and security trends in Central Asia and neighboring regions. The Centre’s activities aimed at the facilitation of cooperation among Central Asian states in trans-boundary water management, protection of environment, countering the threats of terrorism, violent extremism and drug trafficking were discussed as well as topical issues of bilateral interaction between UNRCCA and the Government of Uzbekistan. The Uzbek side underlined existing demand for UNRCCA activities in the region and expressed readiness for cooperation and dialogue.
