Deputy Head of UNRCCA participates at the Workshop on Trans-Boundary Water Resources

On 23-25 September, Deputy Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), Fedor Klimchuk, participated in the workshop “The management of trans-boundary water resources in Central Asia and Afghanistan in the context of climate change” that was jointly organized by the Kazakh-German University and UNRCCA with financial support of the German and US governments, in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
 
Young diplomats and practitioners from all the five Central Asian states and Afghanistan were in attendance. The discussion focused on various aspects of the integrated management of water resources and also on prospects of enhanced regional cooperation in the Aral Sea basin. UNRCCA moderated one of the sessions with special emphasis on norms and principles of international law and the development of relevant bilateral and multilateral agreements in Central Asia, existing challenges and the way forward. After the workshop in Almaty all the participants from Central Asian states and Afghanistan will have an opportunity to visit Germany for meetings with German experts in a number of water related institutions.
