SRSG’s visit to Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland –

On 2-3 July, Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited Geneva and met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, UNECE Executive Secretary, Mr. Christian Friis Bach, as well as UNCTAD and UNITAR representatives. Discussions focused on the recent developments in Central Asia as well as on cooperation between UNRCCA and other UN agencies.

During his trip, SRSG Draganov also delivered a speech at the High-level Seminar on Regional Cooperation in Trade in Central Asia, organized on 3 July by the UNECE in the framework of SPECA regional working group. The meeting was attended by representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The participants discussed how regional trade development programmes can contribute to sustainable development, as well as the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for landlocked countries and the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation.
