SRSG Jenča visits Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan –

On 10-12 March, Miroslav Jenča, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited Tajikistan to meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Aslov, Head of the Drug Control Agency under the President of Tajikistan Rustam Nazarzoda, State Councilor to the President on Foreign Policy Erkinhon Rahmatullozada as well as the representatives of civil society and diplomatic corps.

The SRSG also delivered a lecture on the theme: “Topical issues of preventive diplomacy in the region and UNRCCA preventive initiatives” at the MFA of Tajikistan.

During the meetings an exchange of views took place on the current situation and potential developments in Tajikistan and in Central Asia, taking into account the situation in Afghanistan and external negative economic factors.

The situation around disputed parts of the borders was discussed as well as prospects for strengthening regional cooperation in dealing with cross-border threats and UNRCCA preventive initiatives including the fulfillment of the Joint Plan of Action for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia.
