SRSG’s visit to Brussels

BRUSSELS, Belgium --

On 28-30 January, SRSG Jenca visited Brussels for consultations with the European Union. On this occasion he was invited to brief the Council’s Political and Security Committee (PSC) on recent political and security developments in Central Asia and exchanged views with PSC Ambassadors on a broad range of matters related to the region.

At the invitation of the Latvian Presidency of the European Union, SRSG Jenca took part in a Conference on “EU and Central Asia cooperation: reality checks, lessons learned and ways ahead”. This event brought together Central Asian Ambassadors accredited in Brussels, experts, think tanks, and EU officials to take stock of EU achievements in the region and brainstorm on revisiting the current EU strategy for Central Asia.

Finally, SRSG Jenca also took the opportunity to attend a round table organized by the East West Institute and Hanns Seidel Foundation offices in Brussels on “Security Threats in Central Asia and Prospects for Regional Cooperation”. During the events, the SRSG discussed with participants current security challenges in Central Asia and ways to address them, notably through preventive diplomacy, and elaborated on the role and activities of UNRCCA in the region.
