SRSG visits Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Ambassador Miroslav Jenča visited Tashkent on 6 July as part of his regular trip to the Central Asia capitals. The SRSG met with Mr. Karamatov, First Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Khamraev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources and Professor Dukhovny, Director of the Scientific Information Centre of Interstate Coordination Water Commission.

Rational use of water in the region, the situation in Afghanistan and fight against terrorism and extremism were among topics during the meetings in Tashkent. Interlocutors informed SRSG Jenča about the measures Uzbekistan is taking in order to improve irrigation systems. SRSG Jenča underlined that the UNRCCA would facilitate creation of a regional mechanism for water management.
